The new Johns Hopkins All Children’s Research and Education Building opened in St. Petersburg, Florida that houses the hospital’s graduate medical education and simulation programs, institutes, an expanded biorepository and a new team of fundamental scientists who will seek to understand the origins of diseases and how to prevent them.
The $95 million, 225,000-square-foot building includes 40,000 square feet of lab space with 27,000 square feet devoted to wet labs. The bench space in the labs are flexible to enable reallocation of space as priorities change.
Jennifer Arnold, M.D., M.Sc., FAAP, medical director of the simulation program, designed the building’s Center for Medical Simulation and Innovative Education, which has spaces to replicate operating rooms, patient rooms and an elevator.
