Korea Aerospace Industries will upgrade the air-to-air communication radios on its T-50 Advanced Jet Trainers (AJT) as part of a US$ 77.4 million (100 Billion Won) deal inked with South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).

KAI had been selected last May as the preferred vendor for the comms upgrade by DAPA.

The new SATURN radios will have significantly enhanced anti-jamming and security functions and be installed on Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) T-50 AJTs and T-50B aerobatic aircraft.

The second-generation, anti-jam tactical Ultra High Frequency (UHF) radios feature next-generation digital frequency hopping methods and will be introduced across the Korean military including the Marine Corps.

The new radios will be supplied by the Korean firm LIG Nex1, while KAI will undertake system integration, test evaluation, airworthiness certification, and delivery of the upgraded aircraft.
