The engineering team of Solomon Airlines has successfully completed a six-week training program focused on Dash-8 aircraft maintenance. Conducted by Queensland Aerospace College (QAC) from Brisbane, Australia, the program was funded by the World Bank under the Second Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP2), led by the Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA).

The training was delivered in two phases: an online theoretical component from September 2-20, 2024, followed by an on-site practical session in Honiara from September 23 to October 11, 2024. Eight engineers participated, gaining comprehensive skills in Dash-8 maintenance, safety protocols, and operational procedures.

Solomon Airlines CEO Sean Te’o noted that the training enhances the team's capabilities, supporting the airline’s commitment to improving service reliability and safety. Alwyn Danitofea, Permanent Secretary of MCA, emphasized the program’s contribution to building local expertise, with support from the World Bank and QAC.

This initiative is part of the broader SIRAP2 project, which also includes upgrades to infrastructure, airports, and navigation systems across the Solomon Islands, aiming to boost aviation safety and resilience.
