MS&T would like to recognize the 2018 Industry Award Winners one final time before the 2019 Winners are announced in mid-September. This week, we highlight the achievements of Immersive Display Solutions Inc. (IDSI), the 2018 Small Business of the Year Award Winner.

What is the Small Business of the Year Award?

This Award recognizes exemplary small businesses in the military S&T domain. Our definition of a small business is “a non-subsidiary, independent firm that employs fewer than 50 employees.” An exemplary small business leverages human capital, innovation and agility to grow and meet client needs, while cultivating a growing technical and social influence in the community

Why Immersive Display Solutions, Inc (IDSI) was selected as the Winner:

Immersive Display Solutions, Inc. (IDSI), founded in March 2006, had 29 full-time employees in the summer of 2018 when their award win was announced. IDSI designs and integrates affordable cylindrical, spherical and custom-shaped projected display solutions for visualization, simulation and training. Utilizing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technology, IDSI's display solutions offer the ideal environment for the simulation of highly immersive experiences. This includes flight, driving, maritime/ship bridge, Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC), ground combat, situational awareness, or any other civilian, government or military operations that benefit from either a panoramic or completely immersive experience.

Since inception, IDSI has demonstrated strong revenue growth rate year over year, with a 50% growth over the three-year period ending in 2017. From 13 full-time employees in 2014, IDSI employed 29 highly qualified employees at the time of their award win in 2018.

IDSI’s JTAC immersive display solutions are a key component of a multitude of fielded programs that have been accredited by the U.S. Joint Forces Command's Executive Steering Committee for Type 1, 2, and 3 day/night, and laser control capabilities. This accreditation, which allows JTAC operators to train in a simulated environment, is vital for JTACs to maintain certification and currency in their specialized profession.

What IDSI has to say about their award win and project updates since last year:

George T. Forbes, CEO and Chairman of IDSI, commented: “We were deeply honored to receive the MS&T 2018 Small Business of the Year Award, and are humbled to be recognized by our peers for our work. MS&T does an excellent job as the voice of our industry. The breadth and depth of coverage by knowledgeable experts provides insights to its readers and helps us stay in touch with leading trends and developments. Highlighting companies through the Small Business Award, as well as the other award categories, is an example of MS&T bringing valuable information to the readers.”

· In 2019 IDSI continues to drive forward and has played a key role with Draper Laboratories in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo landing on the moon. IDSI constructed the 270°immersive display for the true-to-life 4D simulation

of landing the Lunar Module on the moon. The simulator allows guests to enter a Lunar Module sized pod and control a simulated final decent to the moon.
