Engineering & Computer Simulations (ECS) combined its experience in game-based training with the newest generation of virtual reality (VR) hardware and produced an interactive and immersive trainer it will premiere at the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) 2017 today. Medical professionals and conference attendees will strap on the VIVE™ headset – the latest in VR technology – to examine a simulated patient in a virtual clinical environment.

While checking the patient’s blood pressure, heart rate and temperature, the user receives haptic feedback to help develop a diagnosis.

“It’s becoming more challenging for the healthcare industry to train staff both effectively and cost efficiently,” says Larry Kayne, ECS president. “At every patient interaction, medical professionals must be at peak performance. That requires strong communication, top clinical skills and, sometimes, great urgency. Our VR Clinical Skills simulation can prepare them for any situation. We simulate a wide range of clinical settings and integrate the specific skills needed to produce the best patient outcome for each situation. This is all done within the safety of the virtual training environment.”

ECS’s engineers and designers have created simulations and VR trainers for the healthcare and manufacturing industries; city and state government; federal agencies, and U.S. military.

ECS will be demonstrating its VR Clinical Skills trainer at IMSH in booth 119, along with the first online medical center that it built for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
