Titan Medical Inc., a medical device company, entered a partnership with Columbia University Medical center for preclinical feasibility and validation studies on Titan Medical’s SPORT Surgical System. Titan will install the system at Columbia’s simulation training facility in New York City early in 2018; it will be the second installation of the SPORT Surgical System – the first being in a partnership with the Florida Nicholson Center in July. Titan Medical Inc. focuses on the design, development, and commercialization of robotic surgical systems for application in minimally invasive surgery (MIS).
“With this installation of the SPORT Surgical System we expect to explore the potential of single port robotic surgery in gynecology and other surgical disciplines in a preclinical environment,” says Arnold Advincula, M.D., Chief of Gynecologic Specialty Surgery at Columbia University and an expert in robotic surgery. “Single port robotic surgery makes sense for the growing number of gynecologic patients seeking clinically-effective surgery delivered with optimal cosmesis and less pain.
