The Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM) received accreditation from the American Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education to physicians. The accreditation is, initially, for two years and provides the medical school with the opportunity to expand its catalog of in-person and online training programs.
Dr. Joshua Coren, chair of Family Medicine and the director of Continuing Medical Education at RowanSOM said, “This accreditation enables us to offer CME training to all physicians in every discipline.”
Continuing medical education (CME) requirements can vary by state. By law, New Jersey physicians must earn 100 CME credits every two years to maintain their medical licenses. The ACCME accreditation allows RowanSOM to provide this essential training for both allopathic (MD) and osteopathic (DO) physicians. It confirms that RowanSOM meets the ACCME standard of providing physicians with advanced training that is “relevant, practice-based and independent of commercial influence.”
At the end of the two-year provisional period, RowanSOM will be eligible to seek full accreditation for a period of four to six years.
