Device Authority’s KeyScaler platform will integrate withnCipher’s nShield hardware security modules (HSMs) to provide high-assurancedevice authentication, managed end-to-end encryption and certificateprovisioning for IoT devices, which can be used for medical, industrial andother smart connected products. KeyScaler delivers a scalable, device-basedauthentication and authorization to establish a strong root of trust andidentity assurance for medical IoT devices.

Cindy Provin, Chief Executive Officer, nCipher Securitysays: “Every day we are seeing how technology in healthcare is helping improvethe care that patients receive. However, we have also seen that the healthcareindustry is regularly under threat from cybercriminals. Our partnership withDevice Authority has enabled us to solve device authentication and datasecurity challenges that are hindering IoT deployments. By creating a hardenedsystem for issuing and managing device credentials and the keys that areessential to creating a root of trust, we enhance patient safety and alloworganizations to confidently deploy business critical IoT projects. This hasled to our first joint customer win with a large medical device manufacturersecuring surgical robot systems.”

The medical device manufacturer produces high-qualitysurgical robot systems, which perform a variety of treatments and procedures onpatients in hospitals. This advanced new technology benefits patients by makingsurgery less invasive and reducing the risk of infection. Connecting to the internethowever creates security risks and challenges for the devices, the applicationsthey interact with as well as the data, nCipher says. With patient safety topof mind, the customer sought a solution that would both protect the transferand receipt of critical data and surgical instructions as well as providestrong authentication and guarantee the integrity of the medical device itself.Working closely with the customer’s project team, nCipher and Device Authorityhave been able to provide a solution that meets integration and security needs,as well provide enhanced features to support both online and offlineprocessing.
