SonoSim has launched its DVT – Lower Extremity: Core Clinical Module, which focuses on the sonographic evaluation of lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT), including both first-time and recurrent DVTs. Course lessons cover normal lower extremity vasculature, sonographic anatomy, and scanning technique. Multiple DVT ultrasound protocols (ranging from point-of-care to comprehensive whole-leg ultrasound examination) are discussed. Multiple real-patient DVT case studies and alternative conditions included in the differential diagnosis of DVT (e.g., Baker’s cyst) are presented.
In-module questions and an end-module mastery test assess didactic knowledge. The SonoSimulator helps to develop the requisite image acquisition, image interpretation and cognitive task awareness required to perform DVT ultrasound.
The module provides the opportunity to virtually scanreal-patient ultrasound cases and learn to identify DVTs in various venoussegments along the proximal lower extremity.
Hands-on cases include:
Users can apply real-time compression ultrasound for DVTscreening, color-flow, pulsed-wave and power Doppler for vascular assessment.
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordancewith the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Councilfor Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of theAmerican College of Emergency Physicians, the Illinois College of EmergencyPhysicians, and SonoSim, Inc. The American College of Emergency Physicians isaccredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
