2019 GNSH Board of Directors (BOD) Elections had a robust slate of candidates and excellent election participation by member organizations. GNSH Board of Directors are pleased to announce the newly elected board members: Mary Anne Rizzolo, Bryn Baxendale and Makani Purva.



Mary Anne Rizzolo EdD,RN hasspent most of her career in servant leadership and brings to the BOD a wealthof experience that has spanned many years. Her passion has focused on exploringnew technologies, determining how they can serve to educate and informhealthcare practitioners, then operationalizing the delivery of those productsin a cost-effective manner. She began her career in simulation in the1980s when she pioneered computer-based simulations. Since then she has broughther leadership to many boards, think tanks and projects. She resides in theUSA.



Bryn Baxendale MD ChB FRCA FAcadMedE brings his clinical expertise in emergency, trauma and vascular services at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), one of the largest acute teaching hospitals in the UK. He helped design the Trent Simulation & Clinical Skills Centre at NUH and has been Director of this regional facility since it opened in 2004. He was the inaugural President of the Association of Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) from 2009-14, which is now the leading UK organisation addressing the use of simulation to enhance professional training and patient safety in healthcare.  He brings expertise in leading and evaluating faculty development as well as a national team training CRM programme for multi-professional operating theatre teams. He resides in the UK.



Makani Purva, MD serves as Interim Chief Medical Officer and Director of Simulation, Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. She is President, Association of Simulated Practice in Healthcare, UK. She brings leadership in practice, management of a commercially viable simulation centre as well as in a national organisation. She is committed to assisting the current and future generation of simulation educators to understand how simulation can integrate into mainstream clinical care delivery such that the two are seamless to provide high-quality care within the constraints of workforce and financial challenges. She brings a vision to make simulation a cost effective intervention that not only improves safety of care but also provides efficiency gains for the organisation, while supporting the workforce to be more resilient and safety focused. She resides in the UK.

GNSH Board of Directors and membership is appreciative tothese colleagues’ willingness to serve on the Board to move forward the missionand vision of GNSH.
