Tork, a subsidiary of global hygiene and health company Essity, has launched a virtual reality hand hygiene training app.

The free Tork app is a result of Essity's collaboration with hand hygiene experts at World Health Organization Collaborating Centre.  Behavioral scientists and university hospitals also consulted on the app.

"This innovation uses engaging digital technology that brings a virtual ‘real life’ experience to healthcare hygiene education, which can improve hand hygiene compliance and result in the prevention of infections," said Don Lewis, President Professional Hygiene, Essity.

Sweden-based Essity said they surveyed more than 1,000 healthcare professionals in five countries before developing the app.

The survey showed 80% of healthcare professionals wanted to improve their hand hygiene compliance and 40% would like better training.
