The Innovation Institute for Fan Experience (IIFX) has introduced the ASPIRE program to explore virtual reality (VR) as a training tool for frontline sports venue staff. Backed by Intel and Dell, the pilot program ran between May and October at major U.S. venues like Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Highmark Stadium, involving 238 participants in roles such as guest services, parking, and security. The program used VR modules from PIXO VR, focusing on soft skills like conflict de-escalation and active listening, alongside some role-specific scenarios.

Results were promising, with participants’ belief in VR training’s effectiveness rising from 56% to 83%. The immersive nature of VR proved beneficial, offering cost-effective, efficient training while improving engagement and retention. As next steps, IIFX and PIXO are offering a VR training bundle, including hardware and modules, to sports and entertainment venue operators at a scalable price, aiming to expand adoption across the industry.
