The APATS (Asia Pacific Airline Training Symposium) 2023 Head of Training Report is now available, offering readers an insight into the topical discussions which took place in Singapore this August.

The Head of Training meeting was attended by representatives from across the region and beyond, covering a broad range of subjects including:

  • Competency Decay: Returning pilots to the cockpit. The pandemic has taken pilots out of the cockpit for months, even years; the remaining will be flying less, and those returning will need more training than usual. What are the concerns? What are the solutions?
  • Using Big Data: Big data is the new hype. But how can it be used in daily training activities?
  • Selection and Ab Initio: Both IATA and CAE have come up with positive forecasts on ab initio. How do you see this? How will recruitment evolve in the coming years?
  • UPRT Implementation: UPRT should be implemented by now. What are the lessons learned, and what can be done better?
  • Use of XR/VR in Training: How is the technology helping us today? What do you need as trainers from the OEMs?
  • EBT Implementation and Readiness: What should be done to accelerate adoption of evidence-based training?
  • Sustainability: How important is sustainability in the training industry, and how can we as an industry reduce the ecological footprint?
  • Human Factors: Around the world, we see an interest in other aspects of the human element beyond the traditional HF. What issues need to be discussed?

The HoT meeting was an invitation-only meeting, and this report provides an opportunity to see the outcomes of a series of round table discussions led by industry subject matter experts. To obtain your copy of the report, please email penny.mcgrigor@halldale.com
