The UK and Qatar governments have agreed to an estimated £6 billion deal for 24 Typhoon aircraft, the largest export deal for the plane in a decade.
The signing was overseen by UK Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson and Qatar Minister of Foreign affairs Khalid bin Mohammed al Attiyah.
“These formidable jets will boost the Qatari military’s mission to tackle the challenges we both share in the Middle East, supporting stability in the region and delivering security at home,” said Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson.
The aircrafts will be assembled in the UK by BAE Systems. Raytheon and MBDA will provide additional manufacturing for weapons systems and munitions respectively.
The Defence Secretary also agreed to a training package and closer co-operation between the two air forces, with Qatari pilots and ground crews training in the UK.
