The Royal Norwegian Navy (RNN) is the first customer to order the upgraded portable DECKsim Virtual Reality Trainer from the Cohort plc company SEA. The DECKsim system replicates flight decks and land-based airfield environments to train personnel on aircraft handling procedures.
The system can be configured for specific airframes, platforms and scenario requirements. SEA Business Development Executive, Andy McGowan said current users of DECKsim have reduced Flight Data Operations (FDO)-related live aircraft flying hours by up to 50 percent.
The system also delivers an environment where an individual can train in routine and emergency operating conditions, which is impossible with a live platform.
