The U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC) and the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM), partnered to lead the development of the Soldier Squad Performance Research Institute (S2PRINT).

According to the Army, the way a soldier interacts individually, in squads and on small teams play a key role in success on the battlefield, which is one of the main ideas behind the creation of the S2PRINT. NSRDEC and USARIEM scientists and engineers will use the facility to perform studies on optimizing soldier and squad performance and enhancing combat readiness. S2PRINT will be built at the Natick Soldier Systems Center in Massachusetts and is expected to become operational in the spring of 2023.

The facility’s emphasis will be on Human Performance Optimization, research will focus on the cognitive, social, physiological, physical and nutrition-based performance of the individual soldiers and the squad. S2PRINT will help researchers develop validated performance and training strategies; tools and interventions for the soldier, leader and small unit; techniques to mitigate injury and interventions to increase soldier and squad resilience and longevity.

The facility will enhance NSRDEC's and USARIEM's collaborations with academic institutions, industrial partners and other DOD agencies and initiatives. The knowledge obtained through S2PRINT will lead to technologies and informational resources that will also benefit first responders.
