Northrop Grumman Corporation’s Middle River Special Mission Aircraft (SMA) Part 145 repair station has been recognized with an Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Diamond Award of Excellence for the company's commitment to maintenance training and safety. This is the second consecutive year the company’s Middle River facility has received a Diamond Award, the fourth since the company entered the program in 2014, and all of the SMA repair station’s eligible employees received an individual Aviation Maintenance Technician Award from the FAA for 2020.
The Diamond Award of Excellence is the FAA’s highest award for aviation maintenance technicians and employers and recognizes aviation maintenance companies that initiate and sustain highly effective training programs aimed at improving safety, quality, reliability and technical knowledge that exceed standard FAA regulatory requirements. To qualify for a Diamond Award of Excellence, 100 percent of eligible technicians must complete and pass specialized, continuous training in aviation maintenance, regulations and FAA rules annually.
Northrop Grumman’s Middle River SMA repair station, located at the Martin State Airport, Maryland, provides standard aircraft maintenance services to approved customer aircraft that conduct special missions, including the US Army Special Electronic Mission Aircraft (SEMA) program and US Air Force Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN) program. In addition, the Middle River SMA repair station provides unique special mission sensor payload installations, aircraft alterations and airworthiness certifications.
“Our technicians are among the most experienced, trained and talented in the aviation industry,” said Michael Deavers, director, strategy, global sustainment and modernization, Northrop Grumman. “Our repair station technicians maintain essential platforms that support our customers’ most critical missions, and these awards reflect their commitment to maintaining superior skillsets and delivering excellent performance.”
