Korea’s Defence Acquisition Programme Administration (DAPA) has announced the project launch of the Republic of Korea Army’s (ROKA) “Army Aviation Tactical Training Simulator Performance Improvement System Development Project.”
Korea Aerospace Industries was awarded a 34.2 billion Won (US$ 25.3 million) contract for the upgrade effort in September.
DAPA’s Advanced Technology Division Director, Kim Tae-gon said that the training systems developed for tactical training of army aviation units would expand the military’s strategic options, strengthen its ability to respond to the enemy, and improve efficiency.
ROKA aviation units use Army Aviation tactical training simulators, which were first deployed in 2011 for helicopters such as KAI’s indigenously developed Surion utility helicopter and Boeing’s AH-64 Apache attack helicopter.
The present simulators in use also have the capability to be linked to other training systems for more realistic joint simulation training.
