The Bulgarian Air Force Academy has received a virtual reality (VR) training system for the F-16 Block 70 aircraft. Installed at the Higher Air Force School "G. Benkovski" in Dolna Mitropolia, the system is part of an industrial cooperation agreement with Lockheed Martin, the F-16 Block 70 manufacturer.

The VR platform provides a full-scale simulation of the F-16 aircraft, allowing trainees to explore and interact with its systems. The technology offers a detailed training experience without requiring an actual aircraft. It includes simulations for various flight conditions, operational procedures, and emergency scenarios, enhancing the practical training experience for both pilots and technical staff.

This new addition supports Bulgaria’s ongoing efforts to modernize its defense capabilities. The academy is now able to offer enhanced training opportunities for pilots, contributing to the overall operational readiness of the Bulgarian Air Force. The system's introduction aligns with Bulgaria's strategy to improve training efficiency while reducing the need for costly live exercises.

"The introduction of this VR training system allows us to enhance training efficiency, preparing our personnel for modern aerial combat and operational tasks," stated representatives from the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense.

The VR system is expected to play a role in familiarizing personnel with the F-16 Block 70 before transitioning to live flight training. It offers practical experience in a controlled environment, preparing trainees for real-world missions and maintenance tasks. The project reflects broader modernization initiatives within the Bulgarian Air Force, aimed at aligning with NATO standards.
