Thomas Global Systems has been awarded a multi-year contract to supply advanced immersive training systems for the AS21 Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) as part of Hanwha Defence Australia’s delivery of the LAND 400 Phase 3 program for the Commonwealth of Australia.

Under the contract, Thomas Global Systems will supply Hanwha Defence Australia with IFV Trainers (IFV-Ts), leveraging Thomas Global’s immersive tactical training (ITT) system architecture to supply the Australian Army with an Infantry Fighting Vehicle training capability. The AS21 Redback IFV-Ts are intended to form part of the Training System for AS21 Redback Introduction Into Service and Sustainment activities. The IFV-Ts will provide high-fidelity immersive simulation for the crew, comprising the commander, gunner, driver and integrated with the infantry team commander, in a single system capable of networking for collective manoeuver training.

The Redback is a fifth-generation IFV equipped with sensor technology usually found on advanced jet fighters and developed specifically for Australian Infantry, with advantages built into it from the ground up across mobility, lethality and protection aspects. LAND 400 Phase 3 will deliver 129 Redback IFVs to the Australian Army from 2027.

Design of the IFV-T has already commenced, with production planned for 2026-2027 and deliveries in 2028. The program will be delivered from Thomas Global’s advanced design and manufacturing facility in Newington, NSW and executed working together with a range of proven Australian supply chain partners, including partners in regional areas.

The contract award builds on the company’s 20-year track record in military training and simulation and means Thomas Global Systems will now be delivering training systems for all new Australian Army armoured fighting vehicle platforms.
