The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the US Army recently trained together with their rocket artillery as part of Exercise Daring Warrior (XDW) 2024, which concluded in late September.
XDW 2024 took place at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The exercise involved approximately 150 SAF and 35 US Army personnel.
The exercise featured a combined live-firing of the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) operated by the SAF’s 23rd Battalion, Singapore Artillery and the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) operated by the US Army’s 2-4th Field Artillery Regiment. Approximately 35 U.S. Soldiers and 150 SAF Soldiers took part in the joint exercises.
Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Defence Heng Chee How was briefed on the conduct of the exercise and witnessed the precision strike capabilities of the HIMARS and MLRS.
Heng expressed confidence in the SAF’s operational capabilities and highlighted the importance of overseas training opportunities for the SAF. “These training opportunities have been invaluable in overcoming Singapore’s size constraints and have enabled our SAF personnel to train and develop their professional competencies,” he said.
“I am thankful and appreciative of all the support given by Fort Sill Fires Center of Excellence, the 75th Field Artillery Brigade, and the Range Control Office for giving the logistical and training support for our Soldiers to train safely and efficiently in Fort Sill,” said SAF Lt. Col. Edwin Cai, the commanding officer of SAF’s 23rd Battalion, Singapore Artillery. “We learned a lot from this joint exercise. We understand our differences, our challenges, and are able to interoperate to achieve the same mission.”
This was the 10th edition of Exercise Daring Warrior, which was first held in 2010.
