CAE-Ares

CAE Healthcare released CAE Ares, an emergency care manikin to meet the life support training requirements of emergency care providers worldwide.

CAE Ares made its first appearances on three continents in June, at the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) conference in Toronto, Canada; at the Human Patient Simulation Network (HPSN) UK conference in Nottingham, United Kingdom; at the Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine (SESAM) conference in Bilbao, Spain and at the EMS Asia conference in Davao, Philippines. In May, High Point University in North Carolina purchased the first Ares manikin in the United States for its Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy.

Simulation-based education is growing within emergency care and life support training, according to CAE. In 2017, the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, which sets educational standards that have been adopted by many Emergency Medical Services agencies in the United States, integrated a required scenario-based exam to its assessment portfolio for paramedic certification. In 2015, the Simulation Use in Paramedic Education Research (SUPER) study reported that while many paramedic programs already incorporate simulation-based education for assessment, problem-solving and critical thinking, 78 percent of respondents would like to use more simulation.

“Healthcare organizations around the world recognize the critical role that life support and quality emergency care play in preventing death and disability, and they constantly strive to improve and standardize their training,” said Dr. Robert Amyot, president of CAE Healthcare. “We designed CAE Ares with the utmost respect and regard for the challenges they face as they learn to save human lives.”

Operated by the CAE Maestro software, CAE Ares is compliant with the most recent AHA and ERC training guidelines. Ares offers advanced airway training, CPR metrics and additional features such as cardioversion, pacing and defibrillation, needle decompression, intramuscular injection, intraosseous and intravenous access as well as SymEyes, which simulate medical states and conditions. The manikin can be enhanced with a blood pumping kit for trauma training. CAE Ares easily converts from male to female. The CAE Ares software includes six Simulated Clinical Experiences that address the four most common EMS alerts: trauma, sepsis, cardiac and stroke.

The Limmer Creative learning application for exam preparation will be integrated into every CAE Ares license for facilitators. The CAE Ares emergency care manikin is currently available for sale through CAE Healthcare sales representatives and distributors. To learn more, visit www.caehealthcare.com/ares.
