The use of XR is expanding across safety critical training enterprises. In one case, Flint Systems has reshaped the way forklift operators are trained. Through their strategic use of VR technology and VIVE products, Flint Systems offerings have included a cutting-edge simulator (above).

Headsets allowing an individual and groups of learners to fully immerse themselves in XR (AR/MR/VR) scenarios are becoming increasingly prominent in Halldale Group’s articles on  military , commercial aviation  and safety critical  training enterprises and at its companion, CAT-hosted events

To align Halldales’s awareness with developments in this space, we’ve taken opportunities to personally wear and put new headset offerings through their paces when opportunities emerge, recently with Varjo’s XR-4 series products and Vrgineer’s XTAL3 CAVU MR headset.

Enter HTC Vive

It was with interest that this author viewed a just-released video titled “HTC VIVE: A Vision for You” that was posted on YouTube and shared on social channels.

This was a “teaser,” concluding with the invitation to “Prepare to pioneer the next reality" and the silhouette of a headset with the Vive logo, followed by the words “Coming soon.”

The video may further lead viewers to conclude a follow-on product is on the way, perhaps to be labeled Vive Focus 4, as the accompanying posted text encourages them to “Keep your eyes open — what’s coming next will change the game for good.”

There were intentionally many unanswered details about a new product in this brief marketing piece: technical specs, whether there will be a focus on commercial or enterprise users, cost and such.

We look forward to learning more from HTC and its possible journey to a Vive Focus 4 product.
