European Air Transport Leipzig GmbH (EAT) is transforming its pilot recurrent training with the introduction of an immersive virtual reality (VR) solution, elevating its emergency and safety equipment training to new heights. As part of DHL’s “Go Digital” campaign, EAT has adopted VR to simulate realistic onboard emergency scenarios, a significant departure from traditional training methods. Previously, pilots practiced fire drills in a container with a water-filled extinguisher. Now, with VR software developed by VRpilot and AVIETRA, pilots can train in the actual aircraft environment of the A300, A330, and B757.

The training covers two critical scenarios: an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) fire in the cockpit and a lavatory waste bin fire in the galley. In January, EAT successfully conducted its first VR training session under the supervision of the Civil Aviation Authority and received approval to continue this advanced training. This innovation is set to enhance the effectiveness of EAT’s flight crew training programs.
