The two new trainers will constitute the fifth and sixth SST variants developed by Sonalysts for the Space Training Acquisition Office (STAO) at the Space and Missile Systems Center in Los Angeles, California. The other four SST trainers are for the Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS), the Wide-Band Global SATCOM (WGS), the Global Positioning System Next Generation Operational control System (GPS OCX), and the Joint Space Operations Center Mission System. The total value for this body of work now exceeds $67 million.
Some 30 software engineers and others with expertise in interactive training, satellite and space operations, computer game technology, modeling, and simulation will produce the two new trainers in the company's Waterford, Connecticut and Colorado Springs, Colorado offices. When completed in 2019, the new Milstar and AEHF trainers will be used to teach satellite operators from the 50th Operations Support Squadron at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado, and the 148th Space Operations Squadron at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.
Upon completion of the new trainers, simultaneous multi-crew training exercises will be possible for all of the MILSATCOM System components (DSCS and WGS in addition to Milstar and AEHF), in any combination desired by Air Force instructors.
