A team of three students from The University of Manchester won the IT FLIES USA Aircraft Design and Handling competition held at The University of Dayton.

Their entry, named the Phantom 1, was designed to be an optimized version of the SU-57 – which competes directly with the F-35 and F-22 aircraft.

A team from The University of Dayton won the second prize, and another Manchester entry won the prize for the Most Innovative Design with an advanced electric vertical take off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) created for urban air mobility.

The competition took place in the Simulation Laboratory at The University of Dayton, and was judged by two test pilots from The Great Lakes Division of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots, who assessed all the entries on the Dayton MP521 simulator, and two flight test engineers.
