One of the fast-paced technology sectors on Halldale Group’s editorial watch list is the maturing digital twin.
In one instance, digital twins are now being used throughout the broad acquisition life cycle for military weapons platforms.
Elsewhere, the S&T industry is using large-scale digital twins to strengthen the rigor and fidelity of training throughout the defense and adjacent high-risk communities – for example, to better represent cities, training ranges and areas, and other sites.
To allow the digital twin sector to further mature and expand, academia is tailoring programs to meet this “demand signal”.
In light of these technology advancements it was noteworthy earlier today to read of an underpinning business development – Capgemini’s plans to “ take on Unity’s Digital Twin Professional Services team” to join and embed within Capgemini, to form “one of the largest pools of Unity enterprise developers in the world.” The transaction is expected to accelerate the iteration and implementation of the market leading real-time 3-D visualization software for the industrial application of digital twins.
And then there is AI, with use cases increasingly populating Halldale’s website departments and others.
At the supplier level, this February 21, NVDIA announced record revenues. Concurrently, Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, somewhat effusively declared, “Accelerated computing and generative AI have hit the tipping point. Demand is surging worldwide across companies, industries and nations.”
Do NVDIA’s record revenues truly point to an AI “tipping point” – to include military training enterprises and other high-risk training organizations?
And while we’re looking at a ($US) billion here and there, moving through investment channels let’s also recall the announcement earlier this month whereby Walt Disney Company and Epic Games, announced, in part, Disney’s $1.5 billion acquisition of an equity stake in Epic.
This editor and the MS&T staff occasionally heard around the I/ITSEC 2023 exhibition hall floor that XR is at, or just beyond, its tipping point.
So, are we also at the tipping point for digital twins and AI, and perhaps other new technology enablers?
The Halldale team looks forward to your comments.
