Researchers at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) are developing an augmented reality (AR) tool to assist field medics by visualizing internal organs for more precise treatment.
The system uses a statistical shape atlas to predict organ locations based on external body landmarks. Integrated with AR, it enables medics to "see" beneath the skin, aiding in rapid assessments.
Additionally, APL is enhancing ultrasound diagnostics with AR-guided step-by-step instructions. This technology aims to improve trauma care in austere environments, bridging innovation with real-world medical applications.
