MOTUM Simulation has received funding from the NHVR and Australian government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative (HVSI) to enhance driver safety training. As part of the HVSI’s tenth funding round, MOTUM’s MOTUM World platform has been used by Qube, resulting in a 37% reduction in reportable incidents.
MOTUM World simulates a range of heavy vehicles and driving scenarios, allowing for risk-free training. Developed in collaboration with industry stakeholders, the platform will expand to support various vehicle types, including rigid trucks and multi-combinations, replicating real-world dynamics.
Steve Hoinville, Managing Director of MOTUM, emphasized that VR training complements traditional methods by offering cost-effective, repeatable practice. The platform includes 360-degree views, accurate vehicle responses, and realistic sensations like road surface changes and braking forces.
MOTUM World’s expansion will also allow passenger drivers to experience the challenges of truck driving. The NHVR believes the project will significantly improve heavy vehicle safety and contribute to reducing road trauma in Australia.
