Inmates at York County Prison in Pennsylvania are using virtual reality (VR) technology to enhance their job prospects and prepare for life after incarceration. The program allows individuals to train for careers in fields like plumbing, car repair, and more.
The City of York received a $75,000 grant from the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Comcast to help SCPa Works put VR technology into prisons. This initiative is designed to improve reentry outcomes for those impacted by the criminal justice system.
“I frequently call York the ‘City of second chances,’” said Mayor Michael Helfrich. “The program developed by SCPa Works is rooted in this motto. Digital literacy and VR career exploration will do so much to put those impacted by the criminal justice system on a better footing for the future.”
