Estonia's President Alar Karis has launched the AI Leap initiative (TI-hüpe), introducing artificial intelligence into schools this fall. In collaboration with OpenAI, the country aims to integrate ChatGPT Edu into its national education system, marking a global first. A foundation will be established to guide the project and develop a trainer network.

AI Leap's goal is to enhance learning by incorporating AI into the curriculum. The Ministry of Education clarified that AI will not add new content but will foster different thinking and responsible use. One key application is in flipped classrooms, where students research independently with AI and collaborate in class to discuss findings.

Teacher training begins in August, with preparatory workshops scheduled for April, already drawing over 120 school registrations. Concerns about AI's impact on language skills remain, and the Information System Authority (RIA) urges schools to establish cybersecurity policies for data protection.
